Dr. Sorton grew up in Brattleboro where she attended primary school through high school. She received her B.S. in Animal Science from the University of Vermont. She then worked as a veterinary assistant at the Brattleboro Veterinary Clinic before going on to receive her V.M.D. in 1990 from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. As a high school student, Dr. Sorton worked with horses at Southmowing Stables in Guilford as well as at a carriage driving stable in Marlboro, Vermont. While attending veterinary school she worked at several horse barns, including a race horse barn in Pennsylvania where she cared for horses that were recently released from the veterinary hospital. Dr. Sorton enjoys many outdoor activities including scuba diving, horseback riding, foxhunting and ice hockey. She is also an avid reader.
